Capulet Wedding Photographer

Capulet is a restored 1800s warehouse on Dauphine Street, ten blocks below the French Quarter, in the Bywater.

Thirty-foot pitched wooden ceilings. Exposed brick. A roof deck looking back at the city. It's one of the few venues in New Orleans where the building and the neighborhood are doing equal work, and the Bywater is the best-looking part of this city that isn't full of people photographing it.

Before the ceremony

Crescent Park is a few minutes away, on the river.

It's the strongest first-look spot near any venue in the city. Afternoon light coming off the water, and a view of the skyline across the bend of the river that you don't get anywhere else. If you're doing a first look, do it there and take a quick ride over to Capulet.

THE ROOFTOP

The ceremony happens on the roof.

There are two ways to set it up, so the space works for a small wedding and a large one without either feeling wrong in it. City behind you either way.

The staircase up is its own moment. All the anticipation of the day stacks up in that stairwell in the minute before the bride walks out. It's one of the few places at any venue where you can photograph a feeling instead of an event.

The roof keeps working after the ceremony. When the reception gets loud, that's where people go.

THE DOWNSTAIRS

The main room is built for a party. Space for a band or a DJ and a dance floor big enough that people actually use it.

The bar matches the neighborhood. The staff are good and the food is worth eating.

The loft overlooks the whole room, and shooting down from up there gives you the frame most weddings never get: the entire party in one picture.

THE SECOND LINE

The Bywater is made for it. Every house on the route is a different color.
